Restore the Shape and Structure of Your Breasts with Breast Reconstruction in New Orleans!

Many women experience the loss of a breast or breast tissue as a result of illness. At Metairie Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Trey Sands specializes in multiple surgical procedures, including breast reconstruction. Many of these procedures can either be performed immediately after a mastectomy or planned afterward.

Located in Metairie and serving the New Orleans area of Louisiana, Metairie Plastic Surgeons specializes in both surgical and non-surgical procedures to address all of your aesthetic concerns. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and find out if you are a candidate for breast reconstruction surgery.

Why Choose Metairie Plastic Surgeons for Your Breast Reconstruction?

Dr. Sands is trained in the latest breast reconstruction techniques, including:

  • Perforator Flap reconstruction
  • Cohesive gel (gummy bear) implant reconstruction
  • Pre-pectoral implant placement

It is our goal at Metairie Plastic Surgeons to educate our patients and provide multiple options for breast reconstruction to help you decide which type of procedure is best for you.

What is Breast Reconstruction?

When women have a breast moved, undergoing breast reconstruction can help maintain symmetry and appearance of the breasts. We offer multiple techniques at Metairie Plastic Surgeons depending on your condition and aesthetic goals. During your consultation, Dr. Sands will discuss your options and help you choose the best surgical method.

Tissue Expander/Implant-Based Reconstruction

This technique utilizes the patient’s native skin and expands it over time to cover an implant, creating a natural-looking breast. In some cases, a one-stage reconstruction can be performed with an implant at the time of the mastectomy.

Tissue Flap Procedures

These are some of the most common breast reconstruction procedures used today and utilize the patient’s native tissues to create a natural-looking breast that moves along with the patient and that decreases and increases in size along with the patient’s weight fluctuations. Tissue flap procedures are typically performed on women who have experienced a radiation injury to the chest.

Transverse Rectus Abdominis Muscle (TRAM) Flap

A TRAM flap procedure removes tissue from the lower abdomen and has the dual benefit of not only creating a breast mound but also creating a tightening effect in the abdomen where the excess tissue was removed.

Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) Flap

This procedure uses the same lower abdomen tissue as in the TRAM technique but it spares the rectus muscle, resulting in less weakness of the abdominal wall. This is a more extensive procedure and is performed with an operating microscope.

Superior/Inferior Gluteal Artery Perforator (S/IGAP) Flap

A challenging and time-consuming operation, this technique forms a breast mound using skin and tissue from the buttocks.

Latissimus Dorsi Flap

Using skin and underlying muscle from the back, a pocket is formed within the chest to support a breast implant without disconnecting the existing blood supply.

Nipple Reconstruction

This stage of breast reconstruction is optional and can help create the appearance of a natural-looking breast.

Contact Metairie Plastic Surgeons today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Sands and our medical team and find out your breast reconstruction options.
