As we age, the skin of the upper and lower lids thins and begins to sag. As a result of this thinning, the fat of the lower lids may begin to bulge forward creating bags and dark circles under the eyes. The process of achieving a more youthful eye aperture is particular to the need of the patient and the condition of the surrounding tissues. Excess skin, protruding fat or both may be removed during surgery.
Regardless of the technique used in eyelid surgery, the incisions are placed to be almost imperceptible after the healing process is complete.
