As a person ages, there are many things that happen to the facial features and the neck. The most commons things to occur are loose sagging skin, loss of volume and wrinkling of the skin. There have been many advances over the years in facial rejuvenation but not one single treatment option can resolve all of these mentioned problems. This is a very tailored decision process based on the patients needs, desires and the knowledge your surgeon. A decision to do only one procedure or multiple procedures can be made during the consultation process.
A face lift is a surgical procedure that can address the sagging skin of the face and neck. Incisions are typically placed behind and in front of the ear. The underlying structural tissues are tightened, the skin is re-draped and the excess skin is removed. Although this option helps restore a more youthful look, it does not address the loss of volume and wrinkling associated with aging. Adjunctive procedures such as fat grafting, for restoration of volume, and skin resurfacing for fine wrinkles may be recommended. The mid-face and the neck can be treated separately, in a similar manner, though a more limited incisions. A mid-face lift can be done through a number of different techniques, including a lower eyelid incision, which acts to elevate the sagging cheek tissue in a person whose neck may not be sagging. Likewise, a neck lift can be done alone to treat sagging neck tissue, bands in the neck and loss of that natural sharp, smooth jaw line. Liposuction of the neck can be combined with these procedures to remove unwanted fatty deposits in the neck.
