Did your liposuction fail to achieve your aesthetic goals?

If you had liposuction and were left with an uneven, unsightly outcome, you are probably extremely disappointed. You have paid for the treatment, went through the procedure and recovery, without the success you hoped for. Rather than enjoying the slimmer, sculpted look you wanted, you may now be dealing with a new aesthetic problem to solve. The issues that could arise include:

Uneven fat removal

If the fat cells were removed unevenly, liposuction can leave body areas that appear bumpy, lumpy, wavy, or oddly shaped. The skin may appear dimpled, like cellulite, rather than the smooth, taut look you hoped for.

Lax skin

Liposuction, to be effective, should be performed on patients that have a reasonable level of skin resiliency. Removing fatty deposits on patients with loose, lax, aging skin can leave the area with excess skin that does not have the capacity to shrink back and cover the new body contours.

Medical complications

Some liposuction procedures are performed so poorly that medical conditions arise, which are minimally unhealthy, and in the worst cases, pose a risk to health. Excessive scarring, numbness, and more challenging physical issues should be treated as quickly as possible.

What does revision liposuction entail?

Your situation is unique to you, and the first step in resolving the problems is an evaluation of the problems. Dr. Sands will carefully evaluate your skin, the presence of fatty lumps or other problems, and advise you about the most effective approach. The options could include:

  • High-def lipo: This treatment can remove fatty lumps and bumps, waviness, and asymmetry. When the fat has been removed unevenly, the surface of the skin can take a wavy, bumpy appearance. The precision of high-def lipo treatments makes it possible to resolve these problems effectively.
  • Renuvion: When lipo has been performed on patients who lack resilient skin, the problem left behind may be too much excess skin, left hanging, unable to shrink back to cover the new contour. Skin tightening with Renuvion can be the ideal treatment to resolve this problem for some patients. The treatment both tightens skin and triggers natural collagen production for a long-term improvement in skin quality and firmness.
  • Surgical revision: In some more extreme cases of liposuction errors, surgery may be necessary to remove larger quantities of excess skin and resolve other issues left behind.

What is the recovery time after liposuction revision?

The recovery time after a liposuction revision should be uneventful, when your revision is performed at SANDS Aesthetics + Plastic Surgery. We carefully monitor our patients throughout every step of treatment, and ensure they are comfortable, cared for, and very happy with the results. The revision may be performed with only local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, which will speed the recovery time. After the revision is complete, you will need to continue to wear the compression garments, typically for several weeks. You should take the time you need to rest and heal and avoid any vigorous physical activities until Dr. Sands gives you the go-ahead. You can expect a similar recovery time to the original procedure, with the results achieved at about four to six weeks.
