Restore Your Confidence and Youthful Figure with a Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that can restore your confidence and enhance the natural shape of your breasts. This procedure is designed to lift sagging breasts that have lost volume due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy. If you’re considering breast lift surgery, it is important to understand the techniques and benefits of this procedure.

What Techniques are Used During Breast Lift Surgery?

There are several techniques for breast lift surgery, each tailored to address the patient’s specific needs. These include:

Inverted T Technique

This is the most common technique used for breast lift surgery, as it allows for the correction of significant degrees of ptosis (sagging). The procedure involves an incision around the nipple-areolar complex, an incision from the bottom of the areola down to the inframammary fold (IMF, or “breast crease), at the base of the breast, and an incision concealed within the IMF. This technique can transform drooping breasts to look perky, shapely, and youthful. Typically, the only visible incisions after surgery are the incision around the areola and the vertical incision. The concealed IMF incision varies in length depending on the degree of lift and reshaping needed.

Vertical ("Lollipop Incision”) Technique

This technique is best for patients with minimal sagging. It allows for a small amount of nipple elevation along with a minor lift of the breast itself. The resulting incision is similar to the inverted T technique, without the incision within the breast crease. Although this option may seem easier, it will not be appropriate to correct severely drooping breasts.

Periareolar Technique

This technique is used for patients who need a small amount of elevation of the nipple and areola structure. The incision is confined to around the areola, commonly used with breast augmentation when the nipple-areolar complex is lower than desired after implant placement. A periareolar surgical approach does nothing to reshape the breast as do other techniques.

Mastopexy-Augmentation

Restoring breast volume and shape in patients with severe sagging and volume loss from massive weight loss and breastfeeding can be challenging with mastopexy alone. Many are candidates for a breast lift with an implant to help increase the volume loss that has occurred with time.

What to Expect From Your Breast Lift Procedure?

Mastopexy is a surgical procedure that requires incisions, although great care is taken to conceal them. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. We aim to restore the breast to a more youthful shape and position. Although the results are long-lasting, the procedure doesn’t halt the natural aging process, with skin becoming more lax with time.

What is the Recovery After a Breast Lift?

Recovery from breast lift surgery can vary depending on the individual and the extent of the procedure. Generally, patients can expect some discomfort, bruising, and swelling for the first few days after surgery. Avoiding strenuous activity and heavy lifting for several weeks is necessary to allow adequate healing time. Patients will need to wear a surgical bra for a few weeks to help support the breasts during the healing process. Additionally, it is essential to follow all post-operative care instructions provided by the surgeon to ensure a safe and successful recovery.

What are the different types of breast lift?

There are several types of breast lift techniques, including the crescent lift, periareolar or 'donut' lift, vertical or 'lollipop' lift, and anchor lift. The appropriate technique depends on the degree of lift needed and the individual's breast size and shape.

What is the recovery time after a breast lift?

Most patients need to take it easy for at least a week after surgery, and many return to work within a week or two. Full recovery, including the resumption of vigorous physical activity, can take several weeks.

Are there risks associated with a breast lift?

Like any surgery, a breast lift poses risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring, changes in nipple or breast sensation, and, in rare cases, problems with wound healing. Results are permanent but can be altered by factors such as pregnancy and weight fluctuations.

How long do the results of a breast lift last?

The results of a breast lift are visible immediately and are long-lasting, but they are not immune to the effects of aging and gravity. Maintaining a stable, healthy weight can help extend the results.

Can a breast lift be combined with other procedures?

Yes, a breast lift is often combined with other procedures such as breast augmentation or reduction to enhance overall results.

Will there be visible scars from a breast lift?

Yes, all breast lifts result in some scarring, although the incisions are usually placed in locations that can be concealed under a bra or bikini top. Scars typically fade over time but may not disappear completely.

How much does a breast lift cost?

The cost of a breast lift can vary widely depending on geographic location, the surgeon's expertise, and the specifics of the procedure. On average, the cost can range from $4,000 to $10,000.
